Dr. Andrew Keenan is Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at Crandall University. He earned his PhD in Hebrew Bible from the University of Cambridge. He also holds two MA degrees from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, one in Old Testament and one in Biblical Languages.
Dr. Keenan’s research focuses on the text and language of the Septuagint (Greek translations of the Old Testament) and the cultural identity of Greek-speaking Jews in the Hellenistic world. His larger research project aims to contextualize the language of the Septuagint within the historical development of the Greek language. He has published his work in the Journal for the Study of Judaism, the Journal of Septuagint and Cognate Studies, the Journal of Theological Studies, the Encyclopedia of the Bible and its Reception, and an essay in The Septuagint: Multilateral Focus on the Text a volume of collected essays published with Brepols.
Dr. Keenan previously served as an editorial assistant for Tyndale Bulletin and currently serves as an editor of the De Gruyter monograph series, Studies on the Septuagint within the History of Greek (SSHG), where he has a forthcoming volume, entitled Postclassical Greek and Cultural Identity in the Septuagint, co-edited with Dr. Robert Walker (University of Cambridge). He has been awarded the Chadwick Essay Prize from Jesus College (Cambridge), among several grants and awards for conferences and other academic organizational activities.
Dr. Keenan is interested in supervising honour’s theses on topics related to the textual and linguistic interpretation of the Septuagint, social and religious life among Jews living outside Palestine in the Hellenistic world, or later interpretations/receptions of the Septuagint in early Judaism and Christianity.
