Master of Education Program Requirements

Master of Education students may choose a concentration in either Literacy or Inclusionary Practices, and may further choose to take courses only or to complete a major research paper. The program options are outlined below.

Master of Education in Inclusionary Practices (30 Credit Hours)

Core Courses

  • ED6013 (3 credit hour) Advanced Foundations of Education
  • ED6023 (3 credit hour) Research Methods in Education

Primary Courses

Complete 18 credit hours from the list below:

  • ED6106 (6 credit hour) Addressing the Needs of Struggling Readers in Inclusive Classrooms
  • ED6706 (6 credit hour) The Role and Function of the Resource Teacher
  • ED6816 (6 credit hour) Autism Spectrum and Emotional and Behavioural Disorders
  • ED6616 (6 credit hour) Individual Student Assessment*

Electives (Course Only Program)

Students completing the Course Only Program must complete 6 credit hours from the list below.

  • ED6143 (3 credit hour) Best Practices for Language Learners
  • ED6903 (3 credit hour) Addressing the Needs of Struggling Learners in Mathematics
  • ED6313 (3 credit hour) Cultural Literacy in Diverse Classrooms
  • ED6843 (3 credit hour) Development in School-aged Children and Adolescents
  • ED6216 (6 credit hour) Writing Instruction in the Inclusive Classroom
  • ED6403 (3 credit hour) Administrative Theory*
  • ED6413 (3 credit hour) Supervision and Instructional leadership*

If students take all four courses listed under Primary Courses, the fourth course can be counted here as an elective.

Major Research Paper (MRP) Program

Students in the Major Research Paper Program are not required to complete electives, but instead will complete the following:

  • ED6036 (6 credit hour) Research Applications in Education

Courses marked with an asterisk (*) may count toward the Principal’s Certificate. Normally, only those working towards the Principal’s Certificate may take ED6403 and ED6413.
