Crandall University Celebrates 14 Years of Leadership by Dr. Bruce Fawcett

The Crandall community gathered on Friday, September 25, to celebrate the remarkable 14-year tenure of Dr. Bruce Fawcett as President and Vice Chancellor with a special Recognition Dinner held in his honour.

Hosted by the Crandall University Board of Governors, the evening brought together members of the university community – alumni, friends, colleagues, supporters, and special guests – to recognize Dr. Fawcett’s years of dedicated service and the lasting impact of his leadership on the University.

The evening began with a reception in The Great Hall, followed by dinner in The Court and a program hosted by Interim President Dr. Robert Knowles and Board Member Rob Nylen that celebrated Dr. Fawcett’s contributions to Crandall and the broader community.

One of the evening’s most memorable moments came with the announcement that the Commons in Stultz Hall will be named Fawcett Commons in recognition of Dr. Fawcett’s years of service and leadership. The space, which serves as a gathering place for members of the Crandall community, will provide a lasting reminder of his contribution to the University.

Dr. Fawcett was also honoured with the title of President Emeritus, the first ever for Crandall University. This title recognizes his distinguished service as President and Vice Chancellor and his enduring connection to the Crandall community.

The evening also highlighted a new opportunity to carry the Fawcetts’ commitment to students into the future. A recognition scholarship has been established in honour of Dr. Bruce and Penny Fawcett: the Dr. Bruce and Penny Fawcett Academic Excellence & Community Engagement Scholarship.

The scholarship reflects the values that have characterized the Fawcetts’ years of involvement with Crandall, supporting students who demonstrate both academic excellence and meaningful engagement within their communities. At the time of writing, the scholarship has raised approximately $48,000, a testament to the generosity of those who have chosen to honour the Fawcetts by investing in the next generation of Crandall students. Anyone who wishes may choose to contribute to the scholarship fund and provide even more support to future students.

Throughout the evening, speakers reflected on Dr. Fawcett’s leadership and the many ways his service has shaped the University. His tenure has been marked by a commitment to Crandall’s mission, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the wider community, with all evidence pointing to the lasting impact that he and Penny have had that will be a part of Crandall’s legacy for years to come. The Recognition Dinner offered an opportunity for the Crandall community to come together in gratitude, celebrate their contributions, and look toward the future with appreciation for the foundation they helped build.
