2026 Faculty Excellence Awards

MONCTON, NB – On Friday, four outstanding Crandall faculty members were honoured for their exceptional contributions in the areas of teaching, research, and service.

The Stephen and Ella Steeves Awards

The Stephen and Ella Steeves Awards are presented annually to recognize faculty members whose work exemplifies excellence in their disciplines, dedication to students, meaningful engagement with the broader community, and faithful commitment to the University’s mission of transforming lives through quality university education rooted in the Christian faith.

Each year, nominations are submitted by students, staff, and faculty. The Faculty Development Committee carefully reviews nominations for the teaching and service categories, while the recipient for excellence in research is selected with the assistance of an external panel of scholars, ensuring a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation process.

For the 2025–2026 academic year, the award for Excellence in Teaching was presented to Dr. Sergio Ribeiro, recognizing his commitment to student success, innovative instructional approaches, and the lasting impact of his mentorship in and beyond the classroom.

The award for Excellence in Research was presented to Dr. Diandra Singh, whose scholarly contributions and ongoing research initiatives have strengthened both her field of study and the academic reputation of the University.

Two faculty members were recognized for Excellence in Service. Dr. Steve Watts was honoured for his sustained leadership and dedicated service to the University community. Dr. Coreen Bodner also received an award for Excellence in Service, acknowledging her significant contributions to institutional initiatives and her tireless support of students and colleagues alike.

“Congratulations to this year’s award recipients,” said Dr. Jon Ohlhauser, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “As our faculty continues to grow in both number and accomplishment, selecting award recipients becomes increasingly difficult. The depth of talent and commitment among our faculty is truly inspiring, and these individuals represent the very best of that excellence.”

The Stephen and Ella Steeves Awards serve as an annual celebration of the dedication, scholarship, and service that define the Crandall faculty community.
