MONCTON, NB – The Crandall University Faculty of Business Administration today announced the recipients of the Gord and Marlene (Steeves) Read Scholarships in Business Ethics to be Emma Weir of Moncton, NB, and Nathan Smith of Alberton, PE. Both students are completing degrees in Business––Emma with concentrations in Management and Marketing, and Nathan with a concentration in Accounting––having distinguished themselves by exhibiting excellence in academic study and personal integrity, leading their professors to identify them as being among the Faculty’s top students.
The Gord and Marlene (Steeves) Read Scholarship was established in memory of prominent business leaders Stephen and Ella Steeves, and is awarded to students in the Bachelor of Business Administration program who demonstrate academic diligence and a keen interest in business ethics. Recipients are recognized as being promising future graduates in terms of applying ethical standards based on a Christian worldview within their future career.
“I was surprised and deeply humbled to be chosen for this award. It means so much to me to be recognized in this way,” Emma stated. “I have grown tremendously during my time at Crandall through my faith, my classes, my involvement with the Business Society, and my experience as a TA. I’m especially thankful for my professors, whose guidance, encouragement and support have shaped my academic journey and my confidence in what I can accomplish. Their mentorship has challenged me to grow and inspired me to strive for excellence.”
Nathan echoed these comments, commenting that “I am very honored to be selected as a recipient of the Gord and Marlene (Steeves) Read scholarship, which will help me financially toward my goal of earning my CPA designation. Over my few years at Crandall, I’ve sought to get involved outside of class to build skills that will help me in my future career, such as being the treasurer of the Business Society and a TA. I was also on the men’s soccer team for two years, and am currently in my fourth year of helping with the youth group at Dundas Church. These activities, and the classes I have taken over my four years have helped me learn and apply the skills that will aid in my future career.”
Robert MacDonald, the University’s Stephen S. Steeves Professor in Business, and member of the committee that made the award selection, commented, “It has been a pleasure to witness Emma and Nathan grow in so many ways over the course of their time in the Business program. Both are hardworking and persons of integrity, and each has grown significantly in their understanding of the integration of faith and business, the bedrock upon which our degree program is built. We’re very proud of their achievement, and look forward to what God has for them in the future.”
The Crandall University Faculty of Business Administration offers degrees in Accounting, Economics and Finance, Management, Marketing, and General Business Administration. The Faculty’s motto “Excellence. Integrated.” speaks to its vision of being a leader in the integration of business and the Christian faith.
