Moncton – On Tuesday, Crandall University President and Vice Chancellor, Dr. Bruce Fawcett, announced to students, staff, and faculty that the laboratories in the R. B. Eaton Life Sciences Centre would receive a major refresh in 2026. Dr. Fawcett explained that a seven-figure anonymous gift had been pledged to ensure the project could go ahead. Dr. Fawcett commented, “the rebuild of the biology and chemistry labs is the final project of a multi-year renewal plan for all facilities that were constructed when the University moved to the Gorge Road site in 1996. With the completion of this project, all due campus maintenance will be eliminated.”
This rebuild of the biology and chemistry labs will see both receive new furniture, fixtures, and lab equipment to replace aging materials and provide a better learning experience for students and faculty alike.
This project, like the refresh of Colburne House in the summer of 2025, is slated to take place over the spring and summer months so that the labs will be ready for use by the start of the fall term.
While most of the funds have been raised to launch the project, there is still opportunity to lend support to the endeavour, says Executive Vice President and Vice President for Advancement, Dr. Robert Knowles. “We are incredibly thankful to those who have already pledged their support to this project, but there is still some distance to cover before it is fully funded. We appreciate the support of our community at all levels to help us provide the best facilities possible for our students to pursue their education.”
Anyone wishing to support the project should indicate “Science Labs Update” as the designation for their gift.
