Crandall University is proud to announce that Associate Professor of Business Administration Heather Steeves has been awarded the honorary title of Professor Emerita in recognition of her dedicated service and contribution to the University community. The announcement was made during the Spring 2025 Convocation ceremonies, ahead of her upcoming retirement in late summer.
Dr. Jon Ohlhauser, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, shared the University’s reasoning behind the distinction, stating, “The policies of Crandall University make provisions for long-serving tenured faculty members, who have satisfactorily maintained the standards for which they were appointed to their position and rank, to be recognized as Faculty Emeritus/Emerita. At the Spring 2025 Convocation, we took the opportunity to recognize such a faculty member on the eve of their transition to retirement.”
Heather Steeves has been a vital member of the Crandall community for over two decades. Beginning her teaching career at the institution in the Fall of 2004—when it was still known as Atlantic Baptist University—she has played a key role in the development of Crandall’s Business Administration programs and the mentorship of countless students.
Reflecting on her career, Dr. Ohlhauser noted, “Heather Steeves has served as a faculty member at Crandall University (and its former designation, Atlantic Baptist University) for 21 years dating back to the Fall of 2004 when Heather taught her first course. For several of the most recent years, Heather Steeves has served at the rank of Associate Professor, the rank she holds as she completes her service with Crandall University, and we are thrilled to bestow her this honorific rank.”
Steeves herself expressed both gratitude and humility upon receiving the title of Professor Emerita. “This is a tremendous honour, and honestly an incredible surprise. I’ve always considered the work I’ve done at Crandall as a collaborative effort between my colleagues, our students and the University’s supporters, so to each I want to extend my sincere thanks for the support that made this possible.”
As Heather Steeves prepares to step away from her formal academic role, her legacy remains firmly embedded in the ethos of Crandall University. She leaves behind a record of excellence, mentorship, and dedication that will continue to shape the experiences of students and faculty alike.
Crandall University congratulates Professor Emerita Heather Steeves on this milestone and thanks her for her outstanding years of service.
