The following is an announcement from Dr. Jon Ohlhauser, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs:
On behalf of the Academic Office and the Division of Undergraduate Studies, I am pleased to announce that Andrew Keenan has accepted a contractual offer to join the Crandall University community as Assistant Professor of Religious Studies, beginning July 1, 2025.
Andrew is completing his doctoral studies at Cambridge University this spring and for the past few years has been serving both as an Adjunct Professor at Lancaster Bible College (PA) and as an Undergraduate Supervisor at Cambridge University.
His scholarly research centers on the language of the Septuagint (the Greek translation of the Old Testament), with a particular focus on the creation of new words in ancient Greek lexical formation among early Jews and Christians. He has peer-reviewed articles in top journals, such as the Journal for Theological Studies and the Journal for the Study of Judaism, in addition to essays in collected volumes and entries in biblical encyclopedias.
Recently the academic publishing company De Gruyter announced the release of a new monograph series – Studies on the Septuagint within the History of Greek – for which Andrew joined a prestigious group of other editors in producing the volume (Dr. Trevor Evans – Macquarie University, Dr. Klaas Bentein – Ghent University, Dr. Marieke Dhont – Cambridge University, and Dr. Robert Walker – Cambridge University). In addition to this, De Gruyter also announced the forthcoming release (2026) of an edited volume, Postclassical Greek and Cultural Identity in the Septuagint – for which Andrew serves alongside Dr. Robert Walker as co-editor.
Andrew is also a graduate of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he earned two Master of Arts degrees in Biblical Languages and in the Old Testament.
By joining with our current Religious Studies faculty, Dr. Keith Bodner and Dr. Alexander Chantziantoniou, Andrew is helping to ensure we offer our students the very best in Biblical and Religious Studies courses. Andrew will be joining Crandall with his wife Caitlin and two daughters Magnolia and Charlotte this summer.
