Graduate Students Develop Servant Leadership Skills During Montreal Service Trip

Graduate Student Life, in partnership with CU Serves and the Graduate Student Society, took a group of 9 international graduate students from the Master of Management and Master of Organizational Management programs on a service trip to Montreal during the March break, from March 2nd to March 6th. The students volunteered at 5 different organizations in downtown Montreal that serve the homeless population in the city. In addition to volunteering their time, the students had the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about how these not-for-profit organizations operate. They began reflecting on the systemic issues surrounding homelessness in Canada and how they could contribute to solutions moving forward. The goal of the trip was to provide an opportunity for the graduate students to recognize the value and importance of serving and giving back to people in need. However, what emerged from the experience was the students’ growth and development of servant leadership skills, and how they could apply these lessons to their careers in Canada moving forward.
