Crandall Theatre Presents Pride and Prejudice

The Purpose of Crandall Theatre

Crandall Theatre is a student-led theatre company that is affiliated with Crandall University’s Communication Arts – Theatre Program. While it is geared toward students who are enrolled in said program, all Crandall students are welcome to join. Crandall Theatre exists to support students in the Communications Arts – Theatre Program by giving them a university credit as well as real-world acting, directing, and technical/production experience. Beyond this, Crandall Theatre was created to bring the performing arts back to Crandall University.

The Show

Pride and Prejudice ran from February 21 to 23 with roughly 470 people in the audience over the course of the three days. Unlike previous Crandall Theatre productions, this production included not only students, but also one faculty member, four staff members, and one alumni. The reason for this was that the play required many characters, so the director opened the auditions up to any members of the Crandall community who might be interested in flexing their acting muscles.

This is the director, Kenzie Baker’s, second time directing a show with Crandall Theatre. “The first time I directed was a production of Tinkerbell under the instruction of Dr. Scott Mealey as part of my studies in the Communications Arts – Theatre program at Crandall,” Kenzie explains. “I have learned a lot since then, especially about how to create action on stage that emphasizes the most important parts of the story and how to make scene changes visually interesting. In the end, it all came together beautifully!”

Thanks to the production team, the director, and help from various University employees, the production was successfully recorded!

The Future

Crandall Theatre is excited to be able to offer performing arts to the students at Crandall University and looks forward to continuing to bring professional theatre productions to the greater Moncton community. If you’re a member of the Crandall community and would like to be involved in a future production, either on stage or by volunteering with set design, props, front-of-house, or more, follow Crandall Theatre on Facebook and Instagram for updates on auditions and future shows!

“I hope that Crandall Theatre can continue to grow and bless everyone who participates in it, including students, staff, faculty, alumni, and members of the public who attend the performances,” shares Kenzie. “Theatre is my favourite team sport, and the stories we make together have the power to change lives and transform culture. And that is what Crandall University is all about!”
