Moncton – Crandall’s 400-seat auditorium received a significant upgrade over the summer.
At the first chapel service of the fall term, hundreds of new and returning students filled a familiar space that had an unfamiliar look. Students were met with a space that, over the summer, received updated paint, flooring, window treatments, and most notably, brand new seating.
After opening songs led by Worship Arts Director Matt Brouwer and his Worship Apprenticeship team, Crandall President and Vice Chancellor Dr. Bruce Fawcett took the stage to preside over a dedication moment for the newly refreshed space.
“On the old campus, our chapel was an add-on space to the back of the men’s dorm…it was a little rugged, but as students we loved it,” said Dr. Fawcett to the gathered students, staff and faculty. “But when this campus was built in 1996, the chapel space was made to be central…it literally sits at the heart of this building.”
Dr. Fawcett went on to share that, in that first year on the new campus, the original seats didn’t arrive until November, so everyone sat on the floor for the first few weeks, but even then, there was a level of excitement for the new space at the time.
“Almost 30 years later, and in our 75th year, we are thrilled to have given this important space a well-deserved upgrade,” continued Dr. Fawcett. He went on to pray over the space and the chapel ministry that has been central to the University’s identity since the time of the first Principal Dr. Myron Brinton in whose memory the auditorium is named.
Following the dedication, Dr. Steve Watts, Crandall’s Dean of the Chapel, continued the theme of the morning and prayed for the staff, faculty, and students as the new year gets underway.
