Dr. Daniel Goodwin to return to Crandall as Dean of Undergraduate Studies

Moncton – Crandall University is pleased to announce Dr. Daniel Goodwin as the institution’s first Dean of Undergraduate Studies, to start this summer.

Dr. Goodwin holds a PhD from Queen’s University as well as Master’s degrees from Acadia University, and is the author of such works as Into Deep Waters: Evangelical Spirituality and Maritime Calvinistic Baptist Ministers, 1790-1855 (Montreal & Kingston: McGill-Queen’s University Press).

Dan is also no stranger to Crandall – he is an alumnus (Associate of Arts, 1982) and recipient of Crandall’s Distinguished Alumni Award (2022), given for his years of service as Professor of History (1994-2014).

“I’m delighted to be appointed to the position of the Dean of Undergraduate Studies at Crandall University,” said Dr. Goodwin regarding the appointment. “I’ve been an enthusiastic supporter of its stated mission from the time I was a student and later as a professor. That I am now privileged to participate in this new phase of the university’s history is an unexpected honour.”

Dr. Goodwin’s return to Crandall comes after a long battle with a neurological illness called atypical trigeminal neuralgia, the pain of which impeded his ability to function from day to day and forced him to leave the University in 2014. He recounts that, “In 2018, after thousands of prayers offered on my behalf, I was delivered from my illness that I was told was not likely to remit.”

After a long period of recovery, Dr. Goodwin was given a clean bill of health: “With the help of my wife Cathy, close friends, and a remarkable team of health professionals, I was declared ready to resume a life in all its fullness in 2022.”

“We are thrilled for Dr. Goodwin to return to Crandall, and for him to take on this new role as Dean of Undergraduate Studies,” said Dr. Jon Ohlhauser, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “He is a gifted scholar and professor, and he cares deeply about his students and colleagues. I’m looking forward to working with him as we continue to grow and develop our undergraduate programs here at Crandall.”
