Olivia Gordon – Alumni Experience

Olivia Gordon

Master of Management, Class of 2025

When you move to a new place to study and live, you enter a culture that is foreign to you but into which you must quickly integrate. Therefore, studying a course that focuses precisely on international students, with the empathy and understanding that comes with it, is an advantage. This is exactly what Crandall offers, which makes our journey to integrate a little easier. There are small classes, where the personal attention of the teachers leads to a feeling of belonging in students.

In addition, having a background in foreign languages and experience in business management, the Master of Management course is allowing me to complement and enrich the skills I have acquired over the years to better understand lived experiences and to perfect my ability to plan for the long term.

I’m not saying that the studies are effortless, but the familiar environment that Crandall provides makes the journey more enjoyable. The fact that Crandall also offers extracurricular spaces where one can relax without being judged indicates to me that the University cares not only about our academic performance but also about our emotional and mental health, and that is priceless.

Another reason that prompted me to choose Crandall as a place of higher learning was that it was located in Moncton, New Brunswick, the only bilingual province in Canada, which would allow me to partake in at least two local cultures. This in turn would help me to broaden my linguistic and cultural range in both English and French without having to move from place to place. Furthermore, the local people are extremely kind and welcoming, and this makes me feel at home.

Last but not least, the fact that the course is especially aimed at international students allows me not only to acquire new knowledge in Management but also to get to know the point of view of a wide range of colleagues coming from different cultures, which is always enriching and helps me to understand other perspectives with empathy, which I consider necessary for being a good manager.

In a few words, and even if this sounds like a cliché, Crandall, my Cohort, and Moncton have offered me a family, a space where I can be myself and grow at the same time, both professionally and personally. A home away from home.
