Students, staff, and faculty all took part in a car wash fundraiser in support of local organization.
The beginning of an academic year is full of new experiences, from the procedural to the playful. At Crandall, there’s even an opportunity to make a difference in the community at large.
As the fall term got underway, new students were introduced to CU Serves, and that introduction included a morning where volunteers washed cars and raised funds in support of a good cause.
This year, students, staff, and faculty raised $2,531 for Harvest House Atlantic as part of the local organization’s Over the Edge campaign.
As a result of these funds raised, two members of the Crandall faculty, Prof. Don Moore and Prof. Graeme Ching, will get to go “over the edge” and rappel down the side of Moncton’s Assumption Place, alongside other fundraisers supporting the work of Harvest House in this campaign.
“There’s no better way to show the heart of who Crandall is than showing up to support those who care for some of Moncton’s most vulnerable residents,” said Tim Carruthers, Manager of the CU Serves program. “More than just our heart – it also showed a glimpse of our very identity! As a crowd of students cheered and waved signs from the road; I watched a professor with a Ph.D., a newcomer graduate student, and a first year Bachelor of Arts freshman all working together to make short work of a dirty jeep! Service, diversity, humility, and a whole lot of fun – all at once!”
The Over the Edge event, postponed from its original date of September 16, 2023, takes place on Saturday, September 30, 2023, with participants expected to go “over the edge” around 11:00am. All are invited to attend.
CU Serves is a volunteer program that connects Crandall students with ways to serve their community – to make their university experience count in a way that impacts the world around them.
