Degree Completion’s Shelly Lyons shifts to full-time instruction

Crandall University’s Degree Completion Program is pleased to announce that Shelly Lyons will move into the role of Assistant Professor of Organizational Management effective July 1, 2022. Professor Lyons has been working as a Program Administrator and part-time lecturer at Crandall for almost two years and is excited about her new appointment to full-time faculty.

Professor Lyons is currently studying at Royal Roads University, Victoria, BC, for her Doctor of Business Administration and will complete her doctoral candidacy this summer. Her research focuses are Adult Third Culture Kids (ATCKs), spiritual leadership, workplace spirituality, and self-leadership. Professor Lyons plans to  utilize narrative inquiry to investigate how spiritual self-leadership can encourage identity development and a sense of belonging in ATCKs in order for them to fully realize their potential and valuable contribution to the workplace.

Professor Lyons presented her co-authored paper “Beyond a Leap of Faith: Fostering Leadership Spirituality in the Workplace” at the Socially Engaged Applied Doctoral Research in Canada conference in 2021, which was also accepted for full text publication. She is the recipient of a prominent British Columbia Graduate Scholarship, as well as a peer reviewed award for Communicating Research Ideas for her poster presentation at Royal Roads University in March 2022.

In addition to serving as Program Administrator for Degree Completion at Crandall, Professor Lyons has taught a variety of Organizational Management courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and she has recently taken on the Applied Research Project which serves as the cornerstone course for the Degree Completion Program.

Dr. Roger Russell, who is retiring this summer from his responsibilities as Dean of Professional Programs, applauded Shelly’s promotion to Assistant Professor and new responsibilities in Organizational Management. “The Degree Completion Program will be in great hands with Professor Lyons thanks to her wealth of real world experience, relevant higher education, and proven capabilities in teaching organizational Management students,” stated Dr. Russell.

A proud Nova Scotian, Professor Lyons grew up in Yarmouth and now lives in Oxford, looks forward to continuing to teach and advise students while overseeing the undergraduate Organizational Management Degree Completion Program as Program Coordinator.
