Moncton – New funding will allow Crandall Education faculty to partner with a local school to enhance STEM education.
Drs. Tye Campbell, Cathlene Hillier, and J-F have received a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Partnership Engage Grant in the amount of $20,506.
The project, titled “Building a University-School Partnership through Science and Mathematics,” will create a STEM partnership with Beaverbrook School in Moncton, New Brunswick. Beaverbrook School will receive hands-on resources for mathematics and science education, and Crandall University Education students will have the opportunity to practice teaching with these materials at Beaverbrook School.
Through this partnership, Drs. Campbell, Hillier, and J-F will conduct research that examines the experiences of Beaverbrook teachers and students, as well as those of Crandall’s Education students.
Dr. Campbell stated, “I’m very excited to create a mutually beneficial partnership in the community and to support STEM learning.”
SSHRC’s Partnership Engage Grants “provide short-term and timely support for partnered research activities that will inform decision-making at a single partner organization from the public, private or not-for-profit sector. The small-scale, stakeholder-driven partnerships supported through Partnership Engage Grants are meant to respond to immediate needs and time constraints facing organizations in non-academic sectors. In addressing an organization-specific need, challenge and/or opportunity, these partnerships let non-academic organizations and postsecondary researchers access each other’s unique knowledge, expertise and capabilities on topics of mutual interest.” Learn more at sshrc-crsh.gc.ca
