English at Crandall

Crandall’s literature-based English program provides students the opportunity to explore the richness of novels, poems, and plays–old and new–with a strong emphasis on clear and effective writing. Students will develop the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills essential for their professional careers as they work closely with their skilled professors in small class settings.

There are a variety of exciting courses to choose from in our English program, including specialized courses on authors such as Austen, Eliot, Tolkein, and C.S. Lewis, in addition to survey courses in Canadian and American literature, and contemporary literary criticism.

Outcomes and Careers

Graduates are equipped with strong analytical skills and able to express themselves effectively, verbally and in writing.

Recent grads have gone on to continue their education at respected institutions such as McMaster, University of Toronto, Queens, Carleton, and Western University, and have pursued careers in education, law, publishing, creative writing, library science, journalism, and more!

Fun Fact!

Students have the opportunity to take part in the Oxford Study Programme and spend one semester in England, studying Shakespeare and drama as Associate Students at Regent’s Park College of the University of Oxford!
