Crandall University Business Society Recognizes Student Achievement

MONCTON, NB – Moncton’s Royal Oaks Golf Club played host Thursday evening to the Crandall University Business Society’s annual awards banquet recognizing excellence in business student achievement. Several students took turns at the podium reflecting on their experiences studying business at Crandall and articulating their aspirations for the future.

Academic achievement awards were presented to students Deney Taylor of Wakefield, NB, Emily Gray of Norton, NB, and Sabryna Schurman of Cardigan, PE. The winner of the “Bull and Bear” Stock Market competition was announced as first year student Jacob Cochrane.

Graduating student Noah Lohnes of Fredericton received the Peter Humby Award of Business Excellence.  Honouring retired business professor Peter Humby, the award recognizes the business student who, in the eyes of his or her peers, has contributed the most to the Crandall University Business Society and the student body over the course of the past year. During his studies Noah served on the Business Society Executive as Vice President and Treasurer, and as a competitor on the Business Faculty’s case competition team. With plans to begin a Master of Divinity degree at Acadia University, Noah summed up his feelings by stating, “I’m honoured to be the recipient of this year’s Humby Award. It has always represented for me students who show dedication and who strive for excellence in their degrees and the Society. To be nominated and selected by my peers is an achievement which is humbling and very special to me.”

The Juanita McKnight Memorial Award was presented to Bryce Cole of Riverview.  Established in memory of late Business Society President Juanita McKnight, the award recognizes the attributes of passion, outspokenness, empathy, and motivation within the University and the community. Bryce, who will be graduating with concentrations in management and marketing, stated that “It was a great honour to receive the Juanita McKnight Memorial Award. When I came to Crandall my goal was to develop skills that would allow me to succeed both academically and professionally. As my studies progressed, I realize that my skills were powerless if they were not utilized to positively impact the lives of others. My ultimate goal evolved to positively impacting all individuals around me and receiving this recognition demonstrates that I succeeded. I am forever thankful to my professors who nominated me and my peers who elected me. My plan in the immediate future is to obtain meaningful employment that will allow me to flourish and have a God honouring impact on society.”

“I look forward to this event every year,” said Robert MacDonald, Stephen S. Steeves Professor in Business at Crandall. “It’s a real celebration of excellence, and I’m very proud of all our award winners. They are hard-working, exemplary young people who are going to positively impact their world.”
