Preparing Outstanding Teachers for Our Children
The Bachelor of Education program at Crandall University is one of the most respected teacher preparation programs in Eastern Canada. Many of our students have gone on to find teaching positions in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Alberta. Students who complete the program are well prepared to take on teaching challenges in a broad range of classroom settings.
The goal of our Bachelor of Education program is to graduate teachers who will become student-centered educational leaders with a commitment to the important mission of educating generations to come. All who complete the program receive a Bachelor of Education degree with a Certificate 5 that equips them to teach in the elementary classroom.
Students can pursue their Bachelor of Education in one of two ways:
• As a Consecutive Education Degree – Students complete four semesters of teacher education after they have completed their undergraduate degree (B.A., B.B.A. or B.Sc.)
• As a Concurrent B.Ed. Degree – Taken at the same time as the undergraduate degree (B.A., N.B.A. or B.Sc.), this approach requires a minimum of 5 years to complete both degrees. If you wish to pursue the concurrent degree, you should apply during the second semester of your first year at Crandall.
Special Program Highlights for a Bachelor of Education
• Our Bachelor of Education graduates hold a strong reputation around the world. Often they are specifically requested for intern programs in places such as China and Australia.
• Education professors stay abreast of current literature and methodology discussed in professional journals so our students learn the very latest techniques and approaches.
• Students learn to use the latest classroom technology including such resources as Smart boards, student response systems, digital document cameras and infrared classroom sound amplification.
• The program includes 17 weeks in the classroom – 2 weeks of observation and 15 consecutive weeks of actual teaching experience. Students complete their first semester course work before they are in a classroom so they can get maximum benefit from their observations.
• Through the Certificates Program there is an opportunity to obtain Advanced Certification in Literacy or Advanced Certification in Resource Education.
